I’ve gone on record that Knoxville is a particularly difficult place in which to promote independently produced entertainment. This may be not necessarily better or worse than many smaller cities with relatively decentralized populations, but Knoxville’s where I live and try to support the local arts as best I can, so I’m calling the situation … Continue reading

Shows Coming Up (May 27th – June 6th)
Oh man, you guys remember when The Vines were the saviors of rock n’ roll? You remember when Rolling Stone saw fit to declare rock officially “back” on the strength of Craig Nicholls’ crazy ass? They could easily have put the Strokes or the White Stripes or The Hives (three bands also listed, all with more staying … Continue reading
Jake Johannsen this Thursday at Pilot Light
I don’t have enough time to write anything other than a brief thing and post one of an endless backlog of great videos he has, but Jake Johanssen (a comedic legend, which you hopefully probably already know) is going to be at the Pilot Light on Thursday. Sean Simoneau and I are opening the 7:30 … Continue reading
We’re so excited to have the “I’m So Excited!” tour this Thursday
If you think this site isn’t updated often enough, you should see my professional one. I can’t help it if amazing comedy-things keep happening in Knoxville and by proxy my life! This week will include several of those, and here’s the party line for you all. SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1 PRESERVATION PUB (MARKET SQUARE) – 8PM … Continue reading
Where the hell can I find Tyler at the Scruffy City Festival?
I never thought you’d ask. Before I start listing out my schedule (which I need to double-check myself; there’s so much going on), I do want to emphasize that you still have time to get full-weekend passes for a ridiculously good deal. The amount of talent we have coming to Knoxville this weekend is astounding, … Continue reading
Friendlytown Episode 3: Fall Festival Edition THIS WEDNESDAY
That’s right, Knoxville. You lost your alternative weekly, but you gained an evening of guffawery with myself, Jeff, and some festival-starting special guests who’ve done more for our fair city than any of the remaining newspapers (other than BLANK… they rule). Get there at 8 because we may start early this time. Don’t miss our … Continue reading
FRIENDLYTOWN Episode 2, This Wednesday!!
A quick note to tell anybody within 100 miles of Knoxville (that’s a good, round number) to come and check out the live comedy-carnage that will be FRIENDLYTOWN, Episode 2 LIVE! The first one, while we learned a lot in the process and didn’t have much time to promote it, was a hell of a … Continue reading
On that Precarious Relationship Between Televised Sports and Stand-Up
Every single time I’ve had to rely on a major sporting event to end on time for a comedy show to begin, it has gone into extra frames. I’m only exaggerating slightly. To accurately tabulate times that Murphy’s Law has kicked in to make that team kick the extra field goal, plate that last-minute run, … Continue reading
“Hey, Tyler, I’d like to see you perform sometime,” you say noncommittally. Well, look what I’ve got in store for you, acquaintance!
Well, that summer was awesome, and no fooling. I can’t think of a more comedically-productive 3-month stretch of my life, particularly with that tour, the Kinane show(s), and other such spectacularity. With all that in the rear view at this point, here are a few things coming up in the near-to-distant future! YEAH! MONDAYS IN … Continue reading
WEDNESDAY July 30th at the Pilot Light: The “Redefining Rock Bottom” Tour Featuring Dustin Meadows at the Pilot Light!
I’m very excited to bring Dustin Meadows, a good buddy and hilarious comic, to the Pilot Light in Old City this Wednesday night! He’s coming through on his “Redefining Rock Bottom” mini-tour with Michael Meyers and Mike Kolar, two other tours-de-force from the always-explosive Columbus, OH comedy scene. For those of you who may have missed … Continue reading
